課程概述 |
Composition 2 is an advanced course in the sense that you are most likely an advanced student. According to Lynn Bloom, one of my favorite writing teachers, “Whatever their diversity of backgrounds, interests, levels of skill, and reasons for writing, these advanced writers have progressed beyond the expectations of the conventional freshman English class.” Advanced writers “value good writing… take their work seriously… want to write better and have fun in the process.” To me, this means that you have a sense of your strengths and needs as a writer, you’re willing to risk and experiment with your writing, and you’re anxious to grow as a writer. |
課程目標 |
In this class, you will write numerous drafts, selecting three of them for grading. Officially, we will be focusing on ‘theory and performance of ideas in the essay, with stress on the essay form and coherence, sentence and paragraph design, punctuation, technique and other writing conventions.’
Each essay assignment will be described fully in a subsequent handout, but topics will range from a writer’s autobiography to those in which people, places and/or humor are of major importance. The creation and development of this semester’s essays will mostly come from analysis and reflection of your own experience—i.e. there will NOT be much emphasis on outside research. Graded essays should range from two to three typed (double-spaced) pages. |
